Cynthia M. Lewis, MD

Dr. Cynthia M. Lewis, MD, is a Board Certified Hematologist/Oncologist. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, and received her medical degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center, Omaha. Dr. Lewis has been in practice since 1996.

Nicholas J. Hartl, MD

A Nebraska native, Dr. Hartl earned his degree of Medicine from the University of Nebraska Medical Center, Omaha. He completed his Internal Medicine residency and Hematology/Oncology fellowship at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
Dr. Hartl specialized in Hematology focusing on the diagnosis and treatment of blood disorders and oncology.

Lecia-Registered Nurse

I graduated from the University of Nebraska Medical Center at Kearney with my Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) in May of 2000. While I was in college I worked as a Certified Nurses Aid at the Cancer Center and on the medical/surgical floor at Good Samaritan Hospital.
After I graduated, my first position as a registered nurse was on the 4th floor at Good Samaritan Hospital. In February 2001, I began working at Heartland Hematology and Oncology.
I love being an Oncology nurse because of the relationships I develop with our patients and their families. It is very important to me to be an advocate for our patients.

Sue-Registered Nurse

I graduated from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in 1983 with an associated degree in nursing, received bachelor’s degree in nursing from Harding University in 1990. I have worked in nursing since 1983 in a variety of different specialties. What I value most about my work is the personal connections nursing allows me to make with patients.

Shelly-Registered Nurse

I graduated from UNMC College of Nursing in Kearney, Dec. 1993. My previous experience has been in Home care, primarily with Infusion Therapy. I thoroughly love Oncology/Hematology and my job in the clinic because of the wonderful, caring coworkers and patients. I continue to learn and grow everyday. I am blessed and supported by my family, a husband, Marty, and three children Macy, Cole, and Bryce.

Ethel-Registered Nurse

Hi, I’m Ethel. I was born in the Philippines and raised in Chicago, IL. I graduated in 1998 from Linfield College in Portland, Oregon with a bachelors degree in nursing. I enjoy working with the oncology population and have worked mostly in oncology since graduation but I also have experience in hospice and intensive care. I moved to Kearney in May 2005 with my husband Darren and daughter Sofia.

Kim-Registered Nurse

My name is Kim. I graduated from Clarkson College of nursing in Omaha, Nebraska. I started working in oncology 20 years ago. I have been a Certified Oncology Nurse since 1989. I love working in oncology because of the closeness and special ties that are developed with the patients and their family.

Lisa-Lab Tech

My name is Lisa. I work in the lab here at Heartland Hematology and Oncology. I am originally from Kearney. I got my Pre-Med Tech degree here at the University of Nebraska at Kearney (then known as Kearney Sate College). I got my BS in Medical Technology from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. I have been in the medical field as a Med Tech for over 17 years and lover working with all the nice patients. My husband farms here and we have 3 boys. I think Kearney is a great place to live and Dr. Lewis and Dr. Hartl are super Oncologist's.

Becky-Lab Tech

I was born and raised in Northeastern South Dakota. I earned my Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology from Northern State College in Aberdeen, SD. I have work in the lab field for more than 20 years. The first twenty years of my career was in a hospital setting. The clinic environment is very different and I appreciate the chance to get to know my patients that we see multiple times. When not working, I enjoy windsurfing, biking, hiking, jogging, cooking and reading.

Pam-Insurance Accounts Receivable

I started working at HHO in October of 2003. I work with patients financial services which include accounts receivable, verifying insurance, claim status, and processing insurance payments and secondary claims. I work directly with patients and patient assistance as necessary. It is fulfilling to me to be able to help our patients. The most important reason I enjoy working at HHO is the relationships I have with my co-workers within the clinic.

Sue-Billing Department

I started at HHO in May of 2005. I was a member of the last class to graduate from Kearney State College with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. My main job here at HHO is to code patient charges and submit to insurance companies. I assist front office staff by greeting patients, answering phones, scheduling patient appointments and other responsibilities to help with patient flow. I enjoy working at HHO because of the family atmosphere provided to all patients by all members of our staff.

I work as part of the office staff at HHO. My main focus on a daily basis is to gather patient records and information. I started working here in May of 2006 and my best description of HHO is that the atmosphere in the entire building is one of warmth and caring. I have worked with oncology patients for the past 28 years and feel I am able to draw from my past experience and knowledge to help patients and families with questions or concerns as they visit our clinic.

I am currently a Senior at UNK working towards my Bachelor of Arts degree in Music.  I will graduate in May 2007.  I started working at Heartland Hematology and Oncology in September of 2005. I enjoy working here because everyone is so nice and it is a very comfortable atmosphere.  In my free time I enjoy spending time with my friends and family, playing with my puppy, going to Husker football games, and traveling.

Judy-Registered Nurse Office Manager

I completed the University of Nebraska-Kearney Bachelor of Science program where I earned my BSN-RN degree in 1995.  My career started at Good Samaritan Hospital in the Oncology department until joining Dr. Lewis in 1998.  Chemotherapy administration was my primary focus until 2005 at which time I became a part of Heartland Hematology & Oncology's management team.
I enjoy working here because everyone strives to provide a higher level of care by addressing the physical, psychological and spiritual needs of the patient and caregiver.  My personal goal is for us to work as a team to achieve improved outcomes for all involved.
